Amsterdam - Maastricht
A classic road ride in the Netherlands . 8 days . ship category comfort . tour code FAM
Holland Bike & Barge Amsterdam to Maastricht-2010

A tour to discover that the Netherlands is not as pancake flat as you might think. This tour includes the training-areas of many dutch road bikers: the Green heart of Holland, the Hills near Utrecht and of course Limburg, where the ‘mountains’ are feared for their short steep climbs.

Highlights include:
Amsterdam & Maastricht
The Dutch mountains

You start cycling through the Green Heart of Holland. Then further through the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, a hilly and varied countryside including woods, moors and meadows east of Utrecht. From Utrecht the route leads to Nijmegen. This roman city is built on seven hills alongside the River Waal. You cross the german border to cycle through the German national Park De Meinweg, a forestry area. The tour ends in Maastricht. Maastricht is your final destination of the cycle tour and is among the oldest and most handsome cities located in Limburg. Maastricht was once an important fortification town in the time of the Romans.
