What is a Via verde?

Vías Verdes (literally, "green-ways") are old disused railway lines that have been recovered and reconditioned for use by walkers and cyclists. Exploring them is a different, enjoyable and environmentally friendly way of getting to know Spain, its culture and its landscapes. Of over 7,600 km of disused railway lines that existed in Spain in 1993, nearly 2,500 km have been converted into 120 Greenways.
They make an attractive and sustainable resource for the public to enjoy the natural environment and rich railway heritage.
An advice from Cycletours: don't forget to bring a flashlight or bicycle light. The train tunnels can be dark.
