Gulf of Gökova | a natural paradise

The Gulf of Gökova, stretching between the historic city of Bodrum and the spectacular Datça-Peninsula, is a true scenic gem, and a highlight among our cycling tours in Turkey. Completely spared from mass tourism, it is here that Turkey shows its true colours, making it the ideal location for an unforgettable active holiday.

Untamed nature with fantastic panoramas, small harbours, wonderfully clear water, and historical highlights are just a taste of what makes the Gökova Gulf so special, an area well worth exploring by bike and boat! In between cycling excursions, you cruise along with the ship, which travels to a new destination every day. You will sleep and have breakfast and 1 warm meal on board. Depending on the program, this will be lunch or dinner. The other meal is ashore (not included). It’s possible to spend a day on board if you like.

Daily Program

  • Tag 1 Bodrum (Embarkation)

Individual arrival to Bodrum harbour. A collective transfer from Bodrum Airport to the harbour is available on request (not included). Check in starts at 4 PM. In the evening, a shared dinner can be enjoyed on board and you will meet your fellow travelcompanions and the crew.

  • Tag 2 Bodrum - Yalıçiftlik, 44 km

We start the day with a morning cruise to Yalıçiftlik. From here we start our first bike ride through the local pine forests to Camlik where we have a coffee break. The cycling continues through silver-green olive groves to the small village of Etrim. Ancestors of the Turkmen tribes continue to live semi-nomadic lives in this region. We can marvel at their fascinating hand crafts and during a lunch break at a local restaurant we can discover some local cuisine. After lunch we return to Yalıçiftlik where we can enjoy a swim in the afternoon at the nearby beach, followed by dinner on board. We spend the night in Yalıçiftlik.

  • Tag 3 Yalıçiftlik - Mazi - Akbük, 40 km

From Yalıçiftlik, our bike tour takes us inland through the scenic natural landscape before we head back to Mazi on the coast. Here, our ship awaits us for lunch on board. We relax for 2,5 hours crossing by boat to Akbük, a charming little harbour where we can enjoy the afternoon swimming. Dinner on board and overnight in Akbük.

  • Tag 4 Akbük - Akyaka, 32 km

In the morning, a shuttle bus takes us from Akbük to the charming mountain village of Sarnickoy. By bike we will visit the neighbouring village of Akyaka, where we can stop to admire the ancient rock tombs. This picturesque village is characterized by a pseudo-Seljuk-Ottoman architecture with significant wooden elements, unique to Turkey. This unique piece was designed by award-winning architect Nail Cakirhan. We recommend a stroll through this village. Dinner on board and overnight in Akyaka.

  • Tag 5 Akyaka - Çamlı, 32 km

In the morning, a bike tour take us into unspoiled rural areas and the hinterland. Enjoy nature and cycle on quiet village roads and forest paths. We return to Akyaka for a lunch break. Afterwards, we head to the picturesque Çamlı bay, where we can take a refreshing swim. Dinner on board and overnight in Çamlı.

  • Tag 6 Çamlı - English Bay - Yedi adalar, 20 km

Today's bike tour takes us from Çamlı through small villages and fragrant pine forests to the beautiful English Bay. In this idyllic bay there will be plenty of time for a dive in the water. After the bike ride, we have 1,5 hours on board to relax and enjoy the sun on the sundeck while we cruise to Yedi Adalar (Seven islands). Dinner on board and overnight on anchor.

  • Tag 7 Yedi Adalar - Körmen - Knidos - Bodrum, 42 km

The morning crossing takes us to Körmen on the Datça peninsula, which we explore by bike. The first ascent takes us to a height of 450m before we head back down to the sea. On a clear day it is possible to see the Greek islands Nissyros, Tilos and Rhodes. A scenic road leads first along the coast and then through more rural areas, before taking us to Knidos. After the tour, our ship returns to the port of Bodrum, where we will enjoy a last meal on board and spend the night.

  • Tag 8 Bodrum (Disembarkation)

After breakfast check-out. On request a collective transfer to the airport (not included) and individual return home or extended stay in Turkey.

Cycling in Turkey

Gulf of Gökova

Cycling tours through hilly to mountainous terrain with some steeper ascents of up to approximately 400 meters. Requieres confident riding on winding descents, uneven asphalt, and occasionally gravel paths. Suitable for experienced cyclists accustomed to longer daily stages.

  • Distance: 20 - 44 km per day
  • Total elevation: 200 – 700 meters of elevation per day
  • Road conditions: The roads are mostly asphalted, but very rough. There is no such thing as smooth asphalt in Turkey. On some stretches of road, you can expect to encounter chippings and small potholes. For this reason, our rental bikes are also equipped with thick tires and suspension to compensate for bumps.
  • Traffic: Traffic is to be expected within and around coastal towns. 95% of cycle tours lead through rural areas with very little to no traffic.
  • Infrastructure: There are no designated cycle paths in Turkey; cycling tours take place on public roads, preferably on quiet side roads.

Relevant for all levels:
Safe cycling skills and familiarity with road traffic are prerequisites for taking part in our tours. Anyone renting an e-bike should already have experience and be confident in handling e-bikes, as these bikes are significantly heavier and faster than conventional bikes.

Individual cycling
This tour is primarily a guided group tour. Upon consultation with your tour guides, the possibility to cycle on your own along recommended, suitable routes, may present itself. You are free to set aside a half or full day to swim or spend on board the boat, instead of taking a planned bike tour.

Requirement to wear a helmet
Helmet use is mandatory on all bike rides. It is advised to bring your own, well fitted, helmet with you as our rental helmet numbers are limited (reservation required).

Catering

If you wish to eat vegetarian food or have distinctly different eating habits please inform us in time before your arrival. Please keep in mind that special food requirements cannot always be met in all details. If you have extensive food allergies we ask you to give us a list of the food that you can eat. This should be done before your arrival so that the cook can be instructed to plan and shop accordingly.
In the case of a glutenfree diet, we request that you bring along your own basic foodstuffs such as bread and cereals for the duration of your tour with us, as it is extremely difficult to attain these products from Greek vendors.
Please note that due to the small size of the kitchen and the available equipment on board, we cannot guarantee that your food will not come into contact with kitchen utensils in which gluten-containing foods have already been processed.
So if you have a serious celiac disease, where the food must not come into contact with utensils in which food containing gluten was prepared, then we would recommend not to participate in the trip as the risk of an allergic shock would be too high. If it is a (mild) gluten intolerance it is not a problem.

swim or spend time on board of the boat, instead of taking a planned bike tour.

Group riding pace
On our E-bike tour programs, the riding pace is determined by the cyclists on E-bikes. Guest who are taking part on these tours on a gravel bike should have the necessary physical condition to keep up with this pace.

Bringing Children

Bringing private bikes & EXCLUSION of private E-BIKES

The tour which you have booked requires a bike with a fully functional set of gears. We can offer you high quality, fully serviced rental bikes perfect for the terrain of this tour.
We do not allow private e-bikes on board of our boats. This decision has been made due to health and safety regulations.
We do not recommend bringing along private tour or hybrid bikes, as the guided group pace is oriented towards the E-bike riders.
Disclaimer: We will not be held liable for any damages caused to private bikes during loading, unloading or other logistical handling.

Our Ships

Please do not forget that the ship is your hotel as well as a machine, which has to be maintained and operated – day and night. A certain level of noise is therefore inevitable.
